Venugopal road to recovery

Venugopal kept losing his balance with each passing day, due to weak and trembling limbs. As he was gradually losing confidence, he was brought to ApoKOS, where he met therapists who made him exercise regularly. He counselled by doctors who helped him regain his emotional strength. He underwent extensive therapy sessions on Armeo Power for strengthening his left arm, Ekso GT for strength and gait and training, and Balance Master for balance training. These helped him regain his lost confidence.

Who is a candidate for Geriatric Rehabilitation?

This is a form of rehabilitation that caters to elderly people with cardiac diseases or recent cardiac surgeries. This therapy provides inpatient and outpatient services involving simple motion exercises like sitting down, lifting up the arms and legs, balance training, and walking slowly. Patients are also provided with appropriate diet charts based on their health conditions.

Pain is a common occurrence among the elderly due to various health-related risk factors. Chronic pain rehabilitation programme aims to reduce the level of physical agony among the patients. This programme is conducted for a period of roughly four weeks, and it involves physiotherapies, relaxation training, balance training, counselling, nutritional formatting, yoga, and medication. All these therapies aim at improving the musculoskeletal system of the body.

Old age results in a decrease in mobility, flexibility, strength, and endurance. Physiotherapeutic care and rehabilitation helps improve physical health and retain the essential musculoskeletal strength of the body with the help of regular physical and mental exercises. Rehabilitation procedures that mainly involve stretching and flexibility exercises, postural correction, core stabilisation exercises, joint mobilisation, and traction, enable elderly patients to live independently.

Loss of balance is a phenomenon that elderly people experience due to a decline in muscle strength and sometimes after specific health treatments. Balance training improves functional abilities by enhancing the coordination between the brain, nervous system, and related muscles . This rehabilitation process involves regular physical exercises and diets, core stabilisation exercises, traction, correction of body mechanics, postural correction, soft tissue mobilisation, and joint mobilisation. With the help of effective therapies, elderly patients can regain their physical balance.

Rheumatological problems among elderly people, due to natural as well as medical conditions, are unavoidable. Rehabilitation procedures involving systematic physical exercises, traction, balance training exercises, joint mobilisation, correction of body mechanics, soft tissue mobilisation, aquatic physical therapy, yoga, and strict nutrition charts, help in reducing acute pains and rheumatoid arthritis.
